Scholarship & Awards Program Overview

The University of Nevada, Reno Scholarship Program is the original activity of the Reno Rodeo Foundation and an effort that has helped hundreds of students through college.  The Reno Rodeo Foundation has expanded this program considerably and now offers 22 scholarships and an academic award program.

Reno Rodeo Foundation Scholarship

A Reno Rodeo Foundation Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded annually to 20  graduates of rural Nevada high schools who attend UNR and major in Agriculture, Business, Education, Nursing or Communications. Recipients must have an overall high school GPA of 3.5 and maintain a GPA of 3.0 and take a minimum of 12 credits per semester.  Each of the 20 recipients receive $1000 per semester, for a total annual scholarship of $2000.  Once a student is selected to receive the scholarship, that student keeps it for four years.

Bob & Kristen Tallman/Reno Rodeo Foundation Scholarship
The Bob & Kristen Tallman/Reno Rodeo Foundation Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship awarded annually to two graduates of rural Nevada high schools who attend UNR and major in Agriculture, Business, Education, Nursing or Communications. Recipients must have an overall high school GPA of 3.5 and maintain a GPA of 3.0 and take a minimum of 12 credits per semester.  Each recipient receives $1250 per semester, for a total annual scholarship of $2500. 
 

Outstanding Scholar in the Veterinary Sciences
Each year, the Reno Rodeo Foundation selects one University of Nevada, Reno student who is pursuing a course of study in the Veterinary Sciences to receive a special monetary award to be applied toward professional school expenses.

To be considered for this award, students must maintain all of the scholarship criteria detailed and be admitted to an accredited Veterinary School by April 30 of the year in which they will graduate.  The names of qualified students are forwarded directly by the University to the Reno Rodeo Foundation for consideration.

Scholarship Program Application Guidelines

These guidelines apply for the 20 Reno Rodeo Foundation scholarships and the
Bob & Kristen Tallman/Reno Rodeo Foundation scholarships.

* Interested students who are entering freshman must complete the Undergraduate Admission & Scholarships Application and the University Foundation Scholarships supplemental form.

* Interested students who are continuing students must complete the Continuing Student General Scholarship Application and the University Foundation Scholarships supplemental form.

* Entering freshmen must have graduated from a rural Nevada high school with a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

* Students must be pursuing a major in Agriculture, Business, Education, Nursing or Communications.

* Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA at UNR and enroll in at least 12 credit hours per semester to keep the scholarship from one semester to the next.

* As long as they meet the eligibility requirements, students are awarded their full scholarship per semester for four years.  This amounts to $1000 per semester for each RRF scholarship recipient and $1250 per semester for the Tallman/RRF scholarship recipient.

* Qualified applications are selected by the UNR Scholarship Office and referred to the Reno Rodeo Foundation's Board of Trustees for review and approval.  Recipients are notified by the UNR Scholarship Office and are recognized at a Reno Rodeo Association luncheon held in the Spring.

* Reno Rodeo Association Officers, Directors, Members, Wranglers, Flag Team, Rodeo Queens or their immediate family members are not eligible to receive scholarships offered through the Reno Rodeo Foundation..
