Outstanding Scholar in the Veterinary Sciences
Each year, the Reno Rodeo Foundation selects at least one University of
Nevada, Reno student who is pursuing a course of study in the
Veterinary Sciences to receive a special monetary award to be
applied toward professional school expenses.
To be considered for this award, students must maintain all of the
scholarship criteria detailed and be admitted to an accredited
Veterinary School by April 30 of the year in which they will
graduate. The names of qualified students are forwarded
directly by the University to the Reno Rodeo Foundation for
consideration.
Reno Rodeo Wish
The Reno Rodeo Foundation’s Rodeo Wish program was
initiated in 2004. Since inception, four individuals have been
granted a Rodeo Wish. In 2007, the Foundation’s board of trustees
adopted the current focus which is to identify and assist young
people in northern Nevada who have unique and extraordinary medical
needs wherein their short-term and long-term quality of life can be
enhanced through the granting of a wish.
The program provides financial assistance to address
a medical need and provides a “Rodeo Wish Experience” to the
recipient. The Rodeo Wish Experience, in essence, recognizes the
recipient as a Reno Rodeo VIP. The recipient participates in the
Reno Rodeo Parade, has the opportunity to ride into the arena during
a performance of the Rodeo where he/she is recognized during a
special ceremony, and he/she attends various dinners and Rodeo
functions as an honored guest.
If you know a special child who would
benefit from a Reno Rodeo Wish, please

Capital Campaign: Kid's Kampus Activity Center
The Rodeo Foundation
began undertaking capital projects in 2001 in response to the
shortage of dedicated facilities serving children with special
needs. The first project provided Marvin Picollo School an indoor
riding arena in 2002, giving children with a variety of physical and
mental challenges their own adaptive equestrian facility on school
grounds. The success of the Picollo project was a direct result of
community partnerships fostered for the campaign and that model of
fundraising and project management was the keystone for a
considerably larger endeavor.
The Reno Rodeo
Foundation and many partners including Washoe County Social Services
and the Reno Rodeo Invitational Team Roping produced by Perry
DiLoreto raised $2,000,000 to construct the Kid’s Kampus Activity
Center – a 12,000 square foot recreation facility for abused and
neglected children and teens accessing the residential and
non-residential services provided by the entities that comprise the
Kids Kampus. Currently under construction, the Kids Kampus Activity
Center will provide a gymnasium, computer lab and meeting space for
year-round activities. Residents will have a place to exercise, play
games, and socialize. They will also benefit from the opportunity to
receive academic support services in quiet, comfortable rooms.
Construction should be completed early Summer.
