Since 1986, the Reno Rodeo
Foundation has been making a
difference to children and families
in northern Nevada. Started as a
private foundation with the sole
purpose of distributing the proceeds
from the annual Reno Rodeo through
scholarships and community grants,
the Reno Rodeo Foundation is now a
501 (c) (3) public charity offering
a much broader range of support to
those in need in our community.
This
year, the Reno Rodeo Foundation . .
.
-
Provided 24 merit-based
scholarships to students from
rural Nevada to attend the
University of Nevada, Reno.
Recipients are students majoring
in courses of study offered
through the colleges of
Agriculture, Biotechnology and
Natural Resources, Business,
Education, Nursing and
Communications.
-
Distributed over $70,000 to 20
community organizations who
offer direct services to
children and families in our
community.
-
Purchased Lucy, the first
therapy dog to be used in a
Juvenile Detention facility in
the United States.
-
Purchased a "sport friendly"
prosthetic leg
for our 2009 Rodeo Wish
recipient, Matt Cameron, who
lost his leg in an accident in
the Fall of 2008. Matt is
the first high school student to
play football with a prosthetic
leg in the state of Nevada.
We also purchased a lap top
computer with adaptive software
for Vernon Long, who was also a
recipient of a Rodeo Wish in
2009.
-
Opened the doors on our 2.6
million dollar recreation and
learning facility to benefit
abused and neglected children
who have been placed in
protective custody at the Kid’s Kottage. This facility will
also benefit children, teens and
families receiving services from
the McGee Center and the
Children’s Cabinet.
-
Facilitated a highly-successful
Denim Drive to provide clothing,
socks and underwear for children
and teens at the Kid’s Kottage
and in Foster Care.
-
Participated in dozens of
community events through our
“Team 355” partnership with the
Reno Rodeo Association.
The
Reno Rodeo Foundation is the
heart of the Reno Rodeo and we
are always looking for new friends.
Whether you want to volunteer or
offer support in other ways, we
would love to have you join us as we
reach out to those in need.
If
you're interested in volunteering
with the Foundation or with the Reno
Rodeo, please complete and submit a
Wrangler Application.
We also
hope you'll show your support by
selecting the
Rodeo State Charitable
License Plate for your vehicle and
by bringing your friends and family
to the
2010 Reno Rodeo, June 17 –
26.
The
Reno Rodeo is more than just 10 days
of world-class entertainment in
June, it is an event that provides
behind-the-scenes support to
thousands of children and families
each year.
Thanks
for visiting and we'll see you at
the Rodeo! |
